The major actors and beneficiaries of Blessed Organic Release (BOR) Shea value chains are its associate Shea Nut Collectors – smallholder farmers of Northern Ugandan, thousands of disadvantaged women, who against all odds are working to improve their standards of living and the quality of life of their households.
BOR Collectors are organised in small groups of 25-30 women. This enables for efficient self-reliant participation of group members in own activities and own development; in governance and in transparency. Each group elects a:
- Chairperson
- Vice Chairperson
- Secretary
- Quality Controller
- Mobilizer
- Buying Agent.
Not only are BOR collectors a key component of the production side of the value chain, they are also a key consumer of the products. For this reason, BOR ethical business practices ensures its products include those targeted the high-end market for exports; as well as the lower end market for local consumption.
Among BOR products, therefore, are those packaged in an affordable and user-friendly manner for use of by Collectors’ communities, in particular and generally in Uganda.
