Blessed Organic Release (BOR) young women mentorship programme, dubbed: “Mama Pyonya, is located within its Shea Nut Collectors’ women groups. The mentors are the older women, categorized mothers, who are each paired with two youth as for them to mentor.
Mama Pyonya enables the achievement of multiple objectives:
- Generational knowledge sharing and transfer
- Effective production tool. The young energetic women do the work under the supervision and guidance of an experienced elder.
In addition, BOR continuously organises training programmes in:
- Value addition
- Marketing,
- Costing
- Business plan development
- Other topical sessions for the benefit of the Collectors
These training programmes ensure that the Collectors are empowered to make good value for money decisions about their labour and products. Including, the ability to negotiate good farm-gate prices that they are paid for their Shea nuts.
BOR’s egalitarian model serves a higher purpose of consciously awakening Shea nut tree host communities of the valuable gift of nature hidden in plain sight among them. Enabling them to appreciate the economic value of She nut trees is the best way to motivate host communities to pro-actively support conservation of Shea nut trees that are under threat for use in burning charcoal.
