Founded in 2004, Blessed Organic Release (BOR), is an not-for-profit organisation that is registered with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) as a company limited by guarantee and is without share capital. BOR is tax compliant and is duly registered with the Uganda Revenue Authority.
BOR is a success story of communities innovating and ‘normalizing’ their lives post decades of armed conflict, during which they were forced to live abnormal lives in internally displaced people’s camps. Post the Lords Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency, when the guns went silent, taking advantage of the abundance of East African Nilotica Shea Trees in Northern Uganda, growing on communally owned land, BOR encourages and mentors women into financial freedom through participation in Shea value chains.
Without loosing the traditional importance of Shea for food, BOR value chains include commercialization of Shea – processing it for use for skin care and other beauty products.
In addition, BOR has innovated and encourages its associate smallholder farmers, women Shea nut collectors, to become beekeepers and producers of honey from the nectar of Shea tree flowers. And BOR has also established viable Sesame value chains.
BOR products have received certification from the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS); and European Union Organic Certification.
